Laser welding is an advanced technique to create a lasting and high-graded connection between parts. By integrating robotic movement 3D contours are perfectly laser-weldable. The laser welding technique is based upon the polymer’s light transmission and absorbing characteristics. To weld two plastic parts it’s important that one part can transmit laser light and that the other part can absorb laser light. The absorbed laser beam is converted into heat, leading to plasticization of the polymer. A regulated welding pool arises on the contact surfaces of the two parts, which, after cooling down, results in a high-graded and strong connection.

Advantages

Compared to the more traditional assembly methods, laser-welding offers significant benefits:

  • No mechanical load
  • No temperature stress on the parts
  • High graded and clean seal
  • Liquid tight and gas proof
  • Flexible and non-contact process
  • No vibrations in the welding process
  • No need for 3th component
  • Precise positioning of the contour
  • Controllable energy (heat)
  • Series production: all welds are identical!

Applications

Typical aereas of application:

  • Medical technology (process is 100% clean!!)
  • Micro Technology and chemistry
  • Seals (Liquid tight and gas proof!)
  • Automotive
  • Electronic Housings
  • Optics

But we are sure you know a lot more applications!!
If you want to know more about this technique or if you have an actual use please contact our sales department.
